DUMKA/JAMSHEDPUR/DHANBAD: Union home minister
Rajnath Singh said outgoing
Godda
MP
Nishikant Dubey
may get a cabinet portfolio if he retains the seat. Singh was addressing an election rally at Pathargama in Godda district.
“If you vote your MP back to power I can assure he will get a role in the Union cabinet in the next NDA government,” Singh said, praising Dubey for what he called “exemplary role” as a parliamentarian during the previous two terms.
Dubey, who faced dissent within his constituency for his absence, received a pat from Singh. “I failed to bring as much development in my constituency being a cabinet member like he (Dubey) did here as an MP,” Singh said.
Singh was on a whirlwind tour of Jharkhand on Tuesday as he held two rallies in
Jamshedpur
and
Dhanbad to canvas for BJP candidates
Laxman Gilua
and
Pashupati Nath Singh
.
In Jamshedpur, Rajnath appealed to the voters to elect Narendra Modi government for the second term in office to ensure the “reins of the country remains in the hands of a strong leader who believes in taking right decisions and in delivering on time”.
“I am not saying that previous governments at the Centre did nothing for the country, but frankly speaking, the work culture and style of functioning of the present government has created a sense of pride among the citizens towards the country,” Singh told a gathering in Adityapur, which comes under Singhbhum Lok Sabha constituency.
He stressed on Modi government’s efforts to boost the manufacturing sector. “When we came to the power in 2014, India was ranked ninth in manufacturing sector among the top 10 countries. But in the last four-and-a-half years India jumped to the sixth position due to the policies and programmes of the Modi government,” he added.
The minister said the anti-extremist policy of the NDA government has confined the Left wing extremism to only eight districts in Jharkhand. “The state will be freed of the ultras in the next three years,” he added.
In Dhanbad’s Digwadih, Singh connected with a 1,000-strong crowd on inflation, which is being used by the
Congress to take on BJP. “We have taken care of basic requirements of poor people by building toilets, providing housing, gas connections and health schemes, which were ignored by previous governments,” he added.
Comparing the data on development with Congress, Singh said: “The Congress constructed 25 lakh houses in six years while BJP constructed one crore, 30 lakh houses in last five years. Thirteen crore free gas connections have been provided to poor and needy families. Bank defaulters who have fled from the country will soon be brought back and they will have to pay the amount which belongs to every citizen of our nation.”
