DHANBAD: A city-based contractor was shot dead on the premises of the divisional railway manager office here on Wednesday following a dispute between two groups over a civil contract worth Rs 50 lakh in the Dhanbad railway division.
According to police, the deceased, Mohammad Irfan Khan, had gone to the DRM office to collect tender papers for the contract.
As he approached the Netaji Sports Club in the DRM complex, which is near the SP office, some unidentified persons stopped his motorcycle and fired twice one on the chest and another on the head killing him on the spot. His son Mohammad Amir Khan, who rushed to the spot from neighbouring Rangatand near railway station, suspected the involvement of Fahim Khan of Wasepur in the murder. He alleged one Manjoor, a supporter of Fahim, had threatened his father on Monday and asked him not to apply for the contract.
Irfan was taken to the hospital but was declared brought dead.
Dhanbad SP R K Dhan and other senior officers are investigating the case.
