Ranchi: On the occasion of
Kali Puja, several city puja committees have come up with plans to honour women in different ways.
At one city puja pandal, only women will perform ‘maha aarti’, while another has decided to include women in idol immersion procession for the first time this year.
A total of 1,100 women will perform the ‘maha aarti’ of Goddess Kali on the second day of Diwali.
Married women draped in yellow and red colour sarees will perform the sandhya-aarti at the puja pandal of Shri Kali Puja Swagat Samiti on Harmu Road.
“Only the women perform the ‘maha aarti’ during Kali Puja. This is our way of honoring the women,” said Prem Verma, president of Shri Kali Puja Swagat Samiti.
On the other hand, women will participate in the idol immersion ceremony of Shri Kali Puja Samiti, New Market, from this year onwards.
Ashish Singh, president of Shri Kali Puja Samiti, said, “Women have never participated in the immersion ceremony in the past four decades. To show them respect, the samiti has taken this decision to include women in the process."
