Dumka: The forest department has ordered a probe in connection with a fire at its timber dump yard behind Godda College which destroyed thousands of logs on Monday evening, official said.
Sources said that nearly 10,000 logs were stored at the site and more than half were destroyed. Initial estimates indicated loss worth several lakhs.
Godda divisional forest officer (DFO) Pawan Wagh said that the probe will find out if there was any foul play or negligence as the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. “Forest range officer Sanjay Kumar has been entrusted to conduct the probe,” he said. “Suitable action would be taken once the probe report is submitted,” he added.
The yard had many logs which were felled for a road-widening project.
