Polling station security beefed up: Bokaro implements extensive security measures for municipal elections; drones and CCTV to monitor polling stations

Bokaro: Drones and CCTVs will keep an eye on polling stations as Bokaro gears up for municipal elections scheduled on Feb 23.

Authorities on Wednesday announced extensive security arrangements, including deployment of special magistrates and police personnel at all polling centres to ensure peaceful and transparent voting.


“Sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations will be under round-the-clock surveillance, with CCTV coverage at cross angles to monitor entry, exit, and voting areas. Flag marches and intensified local patrolling will supplement this surveillance, while drones will oversee crowded and narrow polling locations to manage crowd flow and traffic effectively,” Ajay Nath Jha, deputy commissioner (DC) of Bokaro, said.

He also said that mobile phones will be completely banned inside polling booths, and dedicated teams will manage queues to prevent congestion and ensure smooth voter movement. Special arrangements will also be in place to assist senior citizens, differently abled voters, and pregnant women, including vehicle access to polling entrances where required.

The DC, who is also the district election officer, instructed strict adherence to SOPs, emphasising that no incident or information should distract election teams from their duties. Superintendent of police Harvinder Singh ordered audits of essential facilities such as water, toilets, ramps, electricity, lighting, and backup generators at every polling station.

Authorities urged citizens to cast their votes responsibly on Feb 23, advising early arrival to avoid crowds and cooperation with election staff.
