Ranchi: Jharkhand Policemen Association’s meeting was disrupted over the appointment of the new state president of the organisation on Friday.
A faction of the policemen association held a meeting chaired by its general secretary Ramesh Oraon on Friday and decided to appoint vice-president Karn Kumar Singh as the president (in-charge).
Oroan issued a press statement saying that president Rakesh Kumar Pandey has been promoted to the rank of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) so his membership has ended and therefore, Singh would discharge all the functions of the state head.
Pandey has, however, claimed that he is an elected president of the association and would remain so till his tenure ends in December, 2023. According to the association’s rules, he would hold the post even after being promoted to the ASI rank.
The factions have also sent letters to the director general of police, Ajay Kumar Singh, and other senior officers regarding their claims.
Both Pandey and Oraon have accused each other of attempting to embezzle the association funds.
