Parking fee violations continue in Ranchi

Ranchi: Parking fee violations are rampant in several prominent areas of the state capital, with two-wheeler owners being charged more than the official rates at various locations including Nucleus Mall, Sidho Kanho Park, and Kanke Road Smart Point. According to Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) regulations, two-wheelers should be charged Rs 5, whilst four-wheelers incur a fee Rs 20 for up to three hours after an initial free 10-minute period. However, numerous locations are imposing Rs 20 for two-wheelers, causing public discontent.Vishal Kumar, a Class 11 student managing the parking at Nucleus Mall, said, "I charge Rs 20 for two-wheelers. It's the standard rate I've been told to follow." Sanjay Jha, a parking attendant at Sidho Kanho Park, added, "I've always charged Rs 20 for two-wheelers. No one has ever questioned it."At Kanke Smart Point, parking attendant Ritik Kumar said, "We charge Rs 10 for two-wheelers. I follow my employer's instructions and am unaware of official RMC rates." Whilst facilities like Jaipal Singh Stadium and Main Road display official RMC rates on charts, many locations lack such transparency. A mall visitor, Rajiv Mehta, said, "I paid Rs 20 for parking my bike because that's what they asked for. I wasn't aware that it should be less."RMC additional administrator Sanjay Kumar said, "We haven't received any complaints from the public so far, but an audit will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against violators." Local residents are requesting RMC to implement consistent guidelines, install visible rate boards at all parking facilities, and increase public awareness to prevent overcharging.
