DALTONGANJ: Palamu police recovered Abinav Pandey (17) from Kootumba area under Aurangabad district on Wednesday.
Abhinav is a student in a local school here named after his grand mother.
Two miscreants Pappu Pandey and Kumal Singh kidnapped the boy on November 15 from Nawa Toli and later handed him over to another notorious criminal Lallan Paswan.
Abhinav is the grandson of state RJD general secretary and noted civil activist Gyan Chand Pandey and the incident led to a public outcry in the locality.
Giving details of the recovery, Palamu SP said four police teams were set up to trace the boy and track him down.
The kidnappers asked for Rs 1 crore in exchange for the safe return of the boy, said SP Narendra Kumar K Singh, adding that police foiled their nefarious designs on time.
Police got their first lead soon after the kidnapping when one of their accomplices, Phantus was detained. According to the SP, five miscreants have been arrested in this regard.
In another incident, a newborn male child was abducted from a local nursing in Daltonganj. According to Manoj Thakur, OC of Daltonganj police station, Pratima Devi delivered a boy and when the nurse was about to hand over the baby to her family members, a woman identified herself as the child's relative and disappeared with the newborn.
