Over 20K face water crisis in Steel City

Jamshedpur: Over 20,000 people living in the Bagbera area of the Steel City are experiencing water crisis since Thursday after the supply to the households in the Bagbera housing colony got suspended due to a fault in the motor of the pump house.
After the local people informed Raghunandan Sharma, chief engineer of the drinking water and sanitation department (DWSD), he directed the Jamshedpur division officials to repair it soon and ensure supply of water to the households is restored at the earliest.

The residents said they are completely dependent on tanker water for their daily needs which is not enough. Potka MLA, Sanjib Sadar, and social worker Raj Kumar helped the residents by arranging water tankers for free.
"DWSD should have fixed the problem on the first day itself, but nothing has been done so far," Sanjay Jha, a resident, said. “The water requirement is relatively higher than what we are getting from the tankers now,” Shyam Pandey, another resident, said.
On Friday, Sharma had visited Bagbera to enquire about the progress of the Centre’s much-awaited Vrihad Bagbera Gramin Jalapurti Yojna or rural piped water supply scheme.
