Out to beat cold, 11 hurt in explosion near bonfire

Garhwa: Three people were grievously injured and eight persons sustained minor injuries in an explosion when they were sitting near a

bonfire

to warm themselves amid the biting cold in Jobraiya village under Sadar police station area in

Garhwa

on Wednesday. All the injured are admitted at Garhwa sadar hospital.

Police, who reached the village, said the explosion occurred around 9 am. However, they were not able to ascertain the cause behind the explosion till late evening.

Krishna Kumar, the officer in-charge of Sadar police station, said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that people were near the bonfire when the explosion occurred. It was also suggested that someone had thrown a cracker into the bonfire which exploded and injured the people. However, an investigation on the matter is underway.”
