Ongoing LPG booking woes: Ranchi consumers face delays in LPG cylinder bookings; Backlog persists despite some improvement in supply

Ranchi: Even as the LPG crisis in the state capital has eased to some extent, many consumers are still facing difficulties in booking cylinders and their timely delivery. Several customers said they are facing technical issues and delays in the system, forcing them to visit gas agencies for manual bookings.

But even after manual bookings through the numbers provided by the petroleum companies due to the ongoing glitches in the IVR booking system, customers are being made to visit the agencies to collect their delivery authentication code, creating inconvenience for them.




Customers in large numbers were seen queuing up at various gas agencies across the city to receive authentication codes. The long wait affected their routine and urgent work, they rued.

Parul Kumari, a customer queuing up in a gas agency at the Chutia area, said she waited for at least three hours on Thursday. “I booked a refill three days back. The home delivery van refusing to deliver the cylinder and asked for an authentication code from the agency. After queuing up for hours, I finally got the code,” she said.

Many customers said they were facing troubles with refill bookings and had resorted to manual booking. “Through the numbers released by the petroleum companies, I booked for a refill. But I had to visit the agency to get a confirmation code for getting a refill,” Tony Kumar, a customer lining up at a gas agency, said.

Gas agency operators said the situation improved from the past week but attributed the delays due to the backlog of pending orders. “We are trying to clear all pending deliveries as quickly as possible. Supply has stabilised, but it will take a few more days to normalise completely,” Kumar Rupesh, a gas agency owner in the city, said.

Rupesh said several customers have booked for refills, and all are eager to get the refills at once. “That’s not at all possible. We are delivering around 350 cylinders daily. Meanwhile, those who are still facing troubles in booking are visiting the gas agencies,” he said.
