No faculty in five depts of Dumka medical college
Dumka: Three months after the National
Dr Ramesh BH, the NMC’s inspector, who conducted a two-day inspection of the college, has found that five departments do not have a single faculty member. That apart, several departments have acute crisis of teachers. The NMC inspector arrived here on Wednesday and left for Karnataka on Friday.
Dr Arun Kumar, the principal in charge of the PJMCH, said the recent inspection will not affect the ongoing admission for the current academic year as the NMC had given its nod based on the college management’s assurances. “However, if the shortages in faculty members are not addressed very soon, the lacunae can hurt the college’s prospects in the near future,” Kumar said.
In its undertaking to the NMC, the PJMCH administration had assured to fill up the shortages in faculties and the gaps in infrastructure before the start of the 2022-23 academic session.
The five departments which did not have a single faculty member are Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Radiology, Skin and Anaesthesia departments. The college management has been unsuccessful in filling up the faculty posts since the college started in the 2019-20. It was due to the shortages in these departments that the NMC had barred the college from carrying out admissions to its 100 seats for the MBBS seats for the 2020-21 academic session.
"The PJMCH can continue to run the MBBS course for next academic sessions if at least posting of faculties are ensured in at least those departments where there is no one now," Kumar said.
