6 days after birth, girl goes missing from H’bag govt hosp

Hazaribag: Six days after Sunita Devi of Satyam Gandhi block gave birth to a girl at the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, the baby went missing on Sunday, AK Singh, officer in-charge of Hazaribag Sadar police station, said.Mukesh Kumar Yadav was arranging transportation to take his wife, Sunita, and child home after receiving the discharge orders from the hospital when his mother, Uma Devi, was approached by an unidentified woman with the request to take the newborn for a sunbath. When the parents returned, the child's grandmother discovered that the woman had disappeared with the baby, which was born through cesarean section on November 4.Hospital authorities informed the Sadar police station, where a case was registered. Urging anyone having any information about the incident to contact the Sadar police station, OC Singh said, "We are investigating all possible angles. We have deployed personnel and are going through the CCTV footage to track down the suspect." Three months ago, a convict serving life term, Shahid Ansari, had killed a police havaldar in the prison ward of the hospital and fled. Though he was later arrested from Ghaziabad, the incident highlighted security lapses at the hospital."Despite the occurrence of similar incidents reported earlier, security hasn't been tightened," said an attendant of a patient admitted in the hospital.Repeated attempts to contact the superintendent of the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, Dr Anukaran Purti, went in vain.
