JAMSHEDPUR: India can become a leader in the advanced manufacturing sector, provided it builds a vibrant innovative ecosystem and has a technology foresight, believes technocrat M Narayana Rao, chairman and managing director of the Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), a Hyderabad-based unit of the Union defence ministry.
According to Rao, an education system which nurtures creativity and a sound research and development (R&D) culture that supports basic and applied research are the prerequisites to become a leader.
"A policy framework that encourages young people to opt for science as a career should be set up. An industry which is keen to interact with academia and a bureaucracy that is supportive are the other essential requirements of becoming an innovation leader," Rao said delivering the keynote address at a programme organized by CSIR-NML to mark the
National Technology Day on Friday.
National Technology Day is celebrated on May 11 every year to commemorate the achievements of the country like the Pokhran II blast, test firing of Trishul missile, the maiden test flight of CSIR's Hansa-III and likewise. tnn
