Missing stock of syrup: Dumka police raid yields no banned cough syrup; Investigation underway to trace absconding tenant
Dumka: A surprise raid conducted at a rented house in Kusumdih under the Mufassil police station of Dumka to seize banned cough syrup bottles on Sunday failed to yield results, and the raiding police and administrative parties were forced to return empty-handed.
Sources said the raid was conducted following a tip-off about an illegal stockpile of banned cough syrup bottles, but when the team broke open the locked room, the stocks were found to be missing. A probe is underway to ascertain if the accused were alerted by a mole in the administration, sources added.
Speaking to TOI on Monday, Dumka civil surgeon Dr Kamleshwar Prasad said he was informed by circle officer (CO) Amar Kumar on Saturday about the stock of banned cough syrup allegedly kept on a rented premises, following which he had instructed the drug inspector to join him in the raid and ascertain the facts. “The drug inspector is yet to submit his report in the case,” Dr Prasad said.
CO Kumar said the search was conducted after breaking open the lock of the house, but it was found empty. “We found some evidence of housebreaking, suggesting some foul play, before the raid team could reach. Now, it is up to the police to investigate the matter and trace the tenant in question,” Kumar added.
The room is owned by one Babulal Kisku, a cook with the Giridih district police. It was rented to Rezal Ansari about five months ago at Rs 2,500 per month to run a courier business. Ansari is absconding, cops said.
