Ranchi: Two persons, including a medical shop owner, were arrested on charges of peddling drugs at Bariatu in the city on Tuesday.
SP (City) Raj Kumar Mehta said the arrested were identified as shop owner Ravish Kumar and Mohammad Naeem Khan. Twenty-eight empty bottles and six full bottles of Corex, 78 pieces of Nitrazepam tablets, besides Rs 10,790 were seized from the accused.
SP Mehta said, “Acting on a tip-off that drugs was being sold behind a temple located at Bariatu area, a police team led by Sadar deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Prabhat Barwar raided the area and nabbed Naeem.”
“Naeem confessed that drugs were being procured from Ravish’s shop, named Tarun Medico, located at Pitambara Palace at Booty More, without prescription.
We raided the shop and apprehended Ravish,” the SP added.
A consultant with the Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences, Dr Siddhartha Sinha, said, “People taking five or more tablets of Nitrazepam a day have tendency to act violently.”
