JAMSHEDPUR: The last day of the 34th National Games brought bad name to the Steel City following the theft of bronze medal of Bengal pugilist Dolly Singh.
Dolly, who won the medal defeating Suman of Haryana in the bantam 54kg weight category boxing event on Wednesday, was upset over the incident.
The medal was stolen from the residential wing of the JRD Tata Sports Complex where the Games participating teams have been accommodated.
The Bengal team coach was not available for comment on the issue.
According to sources, the victim has not lodged any formal complaint with the organizers but she accused a player of the Manipur team of stealing her medal. Shocked at the accusation, the northeast team player got into depression and was rushed to Tata Main Hospital for treatment where she was released later following first-aid.
The National Games Organizing Committee (NGOC) officials were not ready to talk to the media but the sources have confirmed that they had received a theft complaint. "We have received the complaint and are co-ordinating with the Bengal team to address the issue," said an NGOC co-ordinator.
Both the teams have left for their respective home states on Friday.
