SINDRI: The dharna staged by the youth wing of Marxist Coordination Committee (MCC) at DVC Patherdih substation ended on its 12th day on Friday after the company management agreed to provide at least 22 days work in a month to casual workers.
Dhanbad district president of MCC youth wing Bablu Mahto said that the DVC management has also agreed to provide I-card and weekly medical check-up facility to the workers and indoor medical treatment at DVC Maithon hospital, if needed.
"The DVC management has agreed to make the provident fund account of the casual workers known to them within a month," said Mahato.
The agreement with the management is seen as a major victory for the casual workers who were working for years together but were getting work for not more than 12 days a month.
This apart, they were neither getting any medical facility nor height allowance as per provisions and were not given any identity card by which they could establish their identity as casual worker of DVC.
While superintending engineer Vivek Rastogi and executive engineer Jayanto Ghosh represented the management side in the talks, the worker's side was represented by Bablu Mahto and other leaders.
