Dumka: A man was killed, and six others sustained injuries when a speeding SUV overturned in Sahibganj district on Monday. The incident took place near Shampur village on the Borio-Boarijor main road under Borio police station limits. The police said the SUV’s driver lost control after one its tyres burst when it was cruising. The SUV then veered off the road and fell in a 15 feet-deep ditch on the side of the road.
The passengers on board the vehicle were travelling from Godda district to attend a shradh ceremony in Rajmhal in Sahibganj district.
The deceased driver was identified as Shakti Mirdha. The injured Radhe Mirdha (50), Kishan Mirdha (18), Pradeep Mirdha (32), Mahesh Oraon (55), Sandeep Mirdha (35), Bambam Mirdha (30) and Shivam Kumar Sah (30) were admitted to the Borio community health centre for treatment. All are residents of Bada Simra under Lalmatia police station limits of Godda. “The driver was evacuated along with other injured. The doctors declared him dead at the CHC,” Sudhir Tiwari, the assistant sub-inspector of Borio police station, said.
