RANCHI: This Diwali did not turn out to be great for many in Jharkhand. Suspected miscreants thrashed Rameshwar Choudhary, a Left party leader, who was participating in a Kali Puja programme on Sunday night at Sariya police station.
Giridih SP Kranti Kumar said that Chaudhary was a non-descript leader. "He did not hold any post, he might be a party worker. But it is not yet clear to which left party he belonged to," said Kumar.

Initially there were rumours that Chaoudhary was shot dead. But Kumar who had himself been to the place of occurrence did not find any evidence to support the rumours. "Initially there is no evidence to support shooting incident. There is no involvement of Naxalites," said Kumar.
Police, meanwhile, detained two persons in this connection and are interrogating them. "We have got important clues and hopefully we would crack the case soon," said Kumar.
In another shocking incident late Sunday night some unidentified boys slit the throat of a 22-year-old boy and then smashed his head with boulders. The police is still investigating the case but prima fascia it has come to light that the boy was killed by his friends because he did not allow his girlfriend to mingle with them.

Doranda police station.
