Dhanbad: A three-year-old boy with both legs broken and strangulation marks on his neck was found wrapped in a newspaper near the ticket counter of
Dhanbad railway station on Wednesday morning. The child is undergoing treatment at Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMCH), Dhanbad.
The child, eyewitnesses said, was found under a tree near the railway station ticket counter.
A passenger, identified as
Vikram Thakur, informed the railway child line about the boy. He was immediately taken to divisional railway hospital from where the doctors referred him to SNMMCH, Dhanbad for better treatment.
The matter was reported to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of the district which directed the district child protection officer (DCPO) to appoint a caretaker to look after the child in the hospital and get his photographs published in newspapers so that guardians, if any, may search for him.
District child protection officer
Sadhana Kumari said that the injured child was responding well to treatment. “We have directed the special adoption agency attached with us to deploy one caretaker in the hospital to take care of the child,” she said, adding that “as and when we receive instructions from the CWC, we will publish the photograph of the child to search for his guardian.”
