Ranchi: The slaughterhouse at Kanke built at a cost of Rs 15 crore to sell fresh and hygienic meat shut down five months after it was inaugurated in May, 2018 by Ranchi mayor
Asha Lakra.
Dr
Kiran Kumari, health officer of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation said the association of meat sellers claimed that customers were not able to reach the slaughterhouse and the shopkeeper had to bear a lot of losses.
“Taking their poultry and goats to the abbatoir for hygenic dressing and bringing them back for sale was a costly affair, so the association went to court, seeking restoration of the previous system, under which they were allowed to kill and dress the animals in their respective shops for selling,” Kumari said.
The meat seller’s petition was filed in in October 2018 and since then, the slaughterhouse has remained closed.
Though the court has not ordered the closure of the slaughterhouse, it has scheduled the next hearing date on June 28.
