JSR Engineering Professional College yet to begin classes
Jamshedpur: Despite having AICTE approval since 2021, the state government-built Jamshedpur Engineering Professional College in Sidhgora is yet to become functional. The college building was ready in 2019 and classes were supposed to commence from 2021-22 academic year.On Thursday, former CM Raghubar Das wrote a letter to CM Hemant Soren to ensure the college gets functional soon. The former CM said in July 2021, the AICTE gave the nod for starting the 240-seat capacity engineering college from 2021-22 academic year. The courses approved by the council include computer science (120 seats), mechanical engineering (60 seats) and metallurgical engineering (60 seats). The education department had announced that either reputed engineering institutions of the country that are part of the 100 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) would be invited for running the college, or, any recognised corporate entity would be approached to operate the professional college.Accordingly, the government opened expression of interest (EOI) for the NIRF recognised institutions, but, it did not fetch desired result, Das said.Further, he claimed that in his previous enquiries with the government regarding the status of the professional college, he found that the technical and higher education department did not include the professional college's name in the list of the engineering colleges of the state that was sent to the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) for council and admission in 2021-22 year. The higher education department cited poor infrastructure for not including the professional college's name in the list, the ex-CM said. “I request the CM to look into the shortcomings and address the bottlenecks to make sure the professional college gets functional at the earliest," Das said.
