JMM may decide bigger role for Kalpana soon

After chief minister Hemant Soren was elected the president of JMM at the party's 13th general convention in Ranchi on Tuesday, the future role of Gandey MLA Kalpana has become a talking point.On the final day of the convention, Kalpana was inducted into the party's new 283-member central committee from Giridih district. On Wednesday, party insiders claimed that Kalpana is likely to be inducted into the 65-member executive committee, the party's highest decision-making body, in the coming weeks."It is up to the president to decide on what role she would take up in the party," Tanuj Khatri, JMM spokesperson and a part of Kalpana's election campaign team during the 2024 assembly election said.Kalpana joined JMM in March last year, weeks after Hemant was jailed by the ED in an alleged land scam case."Kalpana has proved her political acumen during the Lok Sabha and assembly elections last year. She spearheaded the Lok Sabha campaign for INDIA bloc and held over 85 rallies in the assembly election. It is only a matter of time until she gets a bigger role," a senior JMM leader told TOI.Party insiders further said a decision will be taken after Hemant returns from his Europe trip later this month to fetch foreign investments to the state. Besides top bureaucrats and minister Sudivya Kumar, Kalpana will also be a part of the delegation.Hemant Soren on Wednesday took up his role as the party president at JMM's camp office in Harmu. He met party workers and held an hour-long closed-door meeting with senior JMM functionaries. "The new president also mandated that all six of our ministers will visit the office on rotational basis every week and address the grievances of the people," JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said.
