Jharkhand: One of the convicts in Ramgarh lynching case electrocuted

: One of the convicts in the lynching of Alimuddin Ansari died of electric shock on Friday after he came in contact with rainwater charged with electric current near his home in

, the deceased, was among 11 persons, who were convicted by a fast track court on March 16.

Sikandar was on his way to the market when the incident occurred and he died on the spot, police said.

Rajesh Kumar, in-charge of Ramgarh Town police station, who visited the spot soon after the incident, confirmed the death of Sikandar Ram.

Police said a live wire lying on the ground spread the current in the rainwater on the street. Sikandar came out of his house and came in contact of the water.

The police recovered his body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Sikandar Ram had walked out of jail after a division bench of the Jharkhand high court granted bail to 8 of the 11 convicts on June 29 this year.

Alimuddin Ansari (40) was lynched by a mob on June 29, 2017 for allegedly carrying beef in his vehicle.

Alimuddin’s wife Mariam Khatoon had lodged an FIR against 17 persons including Sikandar Ram a day after his murder.

Investigating officer Vidhywati Ohdar had filed charge-sheet against 12 of the 17 accused including Sikandar Ram and the court convicted 11 of the 12 accused in the lynching case and awarded them life imprisonment.
