JHASLA forms special units for people with mental illness
Ranchi: Jharkhand State Legal Service Authority (JHALSA) has formed specialised units in all districts of the state to provide service to those suffering from mental illness and intellectual disability.The units have been formed under National Legal Services Authority scheme called Legal Services to Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disability 2024.The district legal service authority (DLSA) Ranchi has formed a team comprising its secretary Kamlesh Behra, retired principal district and session judge, panel advocate, legal aid defence council system (LADCS) advocate and para-legal volunteers. The two-day training programme of the members concluded on Tuesday.Taking part in the inaugural session, the judicial commissioner Diwakar Pandey said that the scheme aims to provide free legal aid and comprehensive help to affected persons and link them to the govt welfare schemes.During the training, Dr Mashroor Jahan of Ranchi Institute for Neuro-psychiatry and Applied Sciences detailed on acts like UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Physical Disability, The Right of Persons with Physical Disability and Mental Health Care Act.
