Jharkhand HC Orders JPSC to Accept Age-Relaxed Applications for 14th Civil Services Exam
Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court (HC) on Friday directed the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to accept, through online mode, application forms from candidates challenging the upper age limit for appearing in the 14th JPSC exams. As many as 272 candidates appeared before the HC seeking relaxation in the age limit fixed by the commission for holding the 2025 civil services examination.
The court of Justice Ananda Sen ordered the commission to receive the application forms. JPSC made a link on its official website through which the petitioners’ forms will be accepted.
The petitioners, led by Sangeeta Kumari and Deepak Kumar, moved the HC seeking relaxation in the upper age limit cut-off date fixed by the commission. The court was informed that earlier, while conducting the state civil services examinations, the commission fixed the cut-off for the upper age limit at 21 as on 2017, which for the present examinations was fixed till Aug 1, 2026.
According to the JPSC rules, state civil services examinations are to be conducted every year, and there is also a provision for relaxation of the upper age limit. Since the commission did not conduct the exams every year uniformly, candidates missed their chance due to an increase in their respective ages, the petitioners pleaded. Earlier, candidates who appeared for the examinations were given the benefit of relaxation of the upper age limit, said Amritansh Vats, the counsel for the petitioners. The court, while allowing the petitioners to appear in the examinations, further directed JPSC to file a response and not publish the results of the petitioners who appeared in the exams until the final decision in the case.
