Jharkhand end campaign with consolation win
Already out of contention for the knockout berth, Jharkhand finished their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign with a consolation win against Goa in Jaipur on Sunday.
The 31-run win put Jharkhand on the third spot with 16 points in Group A behind toppers Gujarat (28) and Haryana (24) but had no impact on their fate of advancing to the quarterfinals.
Opting to bat first, the Ishan Kishan-led side displayed superb batting from the top order. Opener Utkarsh Singh led Jharkhand's charge with his third List A century (102 off 120 balls) while Kumar Kushagra scored a 80-ball 78 and Kishan chipped in with a run-a-ball 48 to help their side to 320 for seven.
In reply, Goa lost six wickets for just 66 runs in 15.5 overs to look down the barrel. Captain Darshan Misal waged a lone battle with his highest List A score of 151 not out from 111 balls with 14 fours and 8 over boundaries. But barring Mohit Redkar (61 off 72) at No. 8, Misal didn't get any support to see Goa home in the end as their innings stopped on 289 for nine.
Jharkhand allrounder Anukul Roy was the wrecker-in-chief with 4 for 57 as veteran pacer Varun Aaron did early damages with a fine spell of 2 for 29 from his six overs.
Brief scores: Jharkhand 320/7 in 50 overs (Utkarsh Singh 102, Kumar Kushagra 78, Ishan Kishan 48; Vijesh Prabhudessai 2/55, Mohit Redkar 2/64). Goa 289/9 in 50 overs (Darshan Misal 151 not out, Mohit Redkar 61; Anukul Roy 4/57, Varun Aaron 2/29). Jharkhand won by 31 runs.
