Ranchi: The finale of the Zonal-level East Zonal Band Competition, organised under the aegis of the School Education and Literacy Department and hosted by the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), was held at the Mega Sports Complex on Monday.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 15 Pipe and Brass Band teams in boys’ and girls’ categories, representing six eastern states including Jharkhand, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, and Sikkim. The programme was inaugurated jointly by JEPC Director and Chief Guest Shashi Ranjan, CEO JSLPS Naveen Jha, and State Programme Officer Dhirsen A. Soreng, through the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the release of balloons.
JEPC Director Shashi Ranjan stated, "Despite the diverse languages and cultures of the eastern states, the competition reflected remarkable harmony in rhythm and coordination among participants. The art, culture, and music transcend language and geographical boundaries."
Jharkhand secured first place in both Pipe Band Boys and Pipe Band Girls categories, while Sikkim finished second and Mizoram third in both categories. In the Brass Band Girls category, Tripura clinched first place, followed by Jharkhand in second and Assam in third position. In the Brass Band Boys category, Jharkhand emerged first, Tripura second, and Odisha third.
In the Pipe Band Boys category, Kairali School of Jharkhand secured first position, followed by PM Shri Sir Tashi Namgyal Sr Sec School in Sikkim at second and Govt Saitval High School in Mizoram at third. For Pipe Band Girls, PM Shri K.G.B.V, Kanke Jharkhand took first place, Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok of Sikkim at second place, and Govt Saitval High School in Mizoram at third place.
In the Brass Band Girls category, Holycross H/S Karbook, Komati in Tripura grabbed first position, DCM SOE, Khunti in Jharkhand at second, and Shrist King Higher Secondary School in Assam at third position. Finally, the Brass Band Boys saw St. Xaviers H/S Lupungutu, Chaibasa in Jharkhand secured first position, followed by Notre Dame Holy Cross High School in Tripura at second position and George H/S Bargarh in Odisha at third position.
Cash prizes of ₹10,000 for first place, ₹7,000 for second place, and ₹3,000 for third place were awarded in each category. The first-place winners from all four categories have qualified to participate in the National-level Band Competition.
