Meanwhile, the state recorded its biggest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 79 new patients detected on Friday, surpassing the 72 diagnosed on May 30. Among the fresh cases, Simdega and Hazaribag recorded their biggest one-day figures with 30 and 24 new cases respectively. Ramgarh detected seven cases, Garhwa and Latehar six each and Ranchi, Koderma,

Palamu

, Gumla and

East Singhbhum

one each.

Along with 16 cases reported around midnight on Thursday, Jharkhand’s case load now stands at 922, with the number of active cases crossing the 500-mark for the first time. Of the total cases, 504 are active and 411 have recovered (including 20 on Friday).

Talking to TOI, head of critical care and trauma centre Dr Pradeep Bhattacharya said: “The patient from Simdega was brought to Rims around 3:30am from a private hospital soon after he tested positive the virus. The patient had several co-morbid conditions, including kidney and heart ailments.”

Meanwhile, health workers at Rims, the only tertiary Covid care centre in the state, continued to test positive. “A junior doctor who commutes from his home in Loadih locality in the city to the hospital every day from has tested positive for the virus,” said an official at Rims

This is the fourth instance of health workers getting exposed to the infection at Rims. On Tuesday, two female intern doctors tested positive.
