Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Thursday refused to quash the cognizance taken against chief minister (CM)
Hemant Soren by the MP-MLA court in the state capital in a complaint case filed by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).
The ED had filed a complaint case against Hemant after he declined to come to the ED office in response to the notices issued to him by the agency for questioning. Ranchi-based ED assistant director, Devraj Jha, had filed the complaint in the court, stating that 10 summons were issued to the chief minister to appear before the authority in the land scam case. Soren had appeared in response to two summons only, Jha said.
The MP-MLA court judge, Sarthak Sharma, took cognizance of the matter and issued summons to the CM to appear in the complaint case.
The ED reportedly failed to properly progress with the investigation of the land scam case in the absence of Soren’s presence and co-operation for examination and questioning. Thereafter, the ED filed the complaint case before the court of the CJM, Ranchi, which was subsequently transferred to the MP-MLA court.
The high court after having heard the matter declined to interfere in the matter at this stage.
