Jharkhand Boosts Emergency Medical Services with 237 New Ambulances, GPS Tracking
Ranchi: The emergency medical services are all set to be upgraded with 237 new ambulances within the next two months, replacing old and worn-out vehicles. Additionally, new ambulances will be equipped with GPS and tracking systems to improve monitoring, coordination and response time. The announcement was made during a state-level press briefing organised by the National Health Mission to highlight various ongoing health schemes and stress the importance of public awareness. It was also clarified that ambulance and hearse services operate separately, with two hearse vehicles available in each district, and scope for further expansion based on need.
Currently, more than 500 ambulances are operating under the 108 emergency service across the state. In addition, around 30 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) are providing healthcare services, particularly in remote areas, with plans underway to increase this number to 100.
Moreover, a mass drug administration programme for filariasis will be held across the state from Feb 10 to Feb 25. Mission director, Shashi Prakash Jha said, "The primary objective of the interaction was to ensure that accurate and timely information about govt health programmes reaches the general public, as lack of awareness often prevents beneficiaries from availing the intended benefits. The medicines administered under the mass drug administration programme have no side effects." A special campaign will also be conducted from Jan 30 to Feb 13 for leprosy. Meanwhile, over 4.18 lakh cases have been registered under the Ayushman Bharat–Chief Minister Abua Health Security Scheme between Feb 11, 2025 and Jan 20, 2026.
