Jharkhand beats national EV sale growth rate in 2023
Electric vehicles (EV) are emerging rapidly as the future road king in the state witnessing a significant sale growth of 54.38% in 2023 compared to 10.93% growth registered in the fuel segment vehicles sale.
A total of 5,44,045 vehicles were sold in the state in 2023 compared to 4,90,452 vehicles sold in the same period in 2022, indicating a growth of 10.93%. On the other hand, a total of 21,122 electric vehicles, which include twowheelers, three-wheelers, commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles, were sold in 2023 whereas 13,682 EVs were sold in the same period in 2022, indicating a growth of 54.38%.
This tremendous growth in sale of EVs in 2023 was even better than the national average growth of 49.25%. According to retail EV sale data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA), a total of 15,29,947 electric vehicles were sold in India in 2023, while 10,25,063 EVs were sold in India in the same period in 2022, indicating a growth of 49.25%. Govind Mewar, chairman of FADA, Jharkhand chapter told TOI that the retail sale data suggested that EVs have bagged a significant sale growth at national as well as state level in 2023 indicating better awareness and inclination for cleaner and sustainable mode of transport.
Sale of three wheeler EV sale in Jharkhand in 2023 was 13,226 followed by 7,413 twowheelers. Mewar said that twowheeler sale in EV segment saw 10.13% growth in 2023, while EV segment threewheeler sale in Jharkhand saw 94.67% growth.
All vehicles, irrespective of fuel category which include petrol, diesel, CNG and EV saw a growth of just 10.93% sales in Jharkhand in 2023. Interestingly when all segments are considered, sale of two-wheelers is at the top with 4,34,318 units being sold in 2023, while three-wheeler sale in the state was 22,853 in the same period.
