Jamshedpur Elections: Catchy Symbols Like Biscuit, Bucket, Camera Aim to Woo Voters

Jamshedpur: With the nomination process for the ward councillors, mayoral and chairman posts coming to an end with the allotment of election symbols, the candidates have begun wooing voters through unique and catchy poll symbols.

From biscuit, bucket, battery torch, CCTV camera, air-conditioner, bangles to walking stick, each symbol hold a message, the candidates stated.


“The walking stick symbol which I was allotted is common in households, with elders using it for walking. Voters can easily connect with this symbol,” said Balbir Kaur, Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) chairman contender.

Likewise, Sanjay Sardar, who is contesting for the Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) mayoral post, said that the bucket symbol allotted to him is essential in every house. Bucket means a lot to the people as residents spend hours sourcing buckets of water in the summer because water scarcity is a major problem in the municipality, he added.

“It will not take much effort to make the voters remember my election symbol,” said Sanjay.

The Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) mayoral candidate Sandhya Singh, who was allotted a camera as an election symbol, said, “The camera is an useful device. Mobile phones have made camera even more popular, and voters can easily remember the poll symbol.”

The candidates said that although symbols are important in the non-party-based elections, what matters is people’s trust.

“Candidates who work sincerely for the people and who are with the people win the trust of voters,” said Binoti Hansda, who is contesting for the AMC mayoral post.

Notably, 13 candidates are in fray for the MMC mayoral post, nine are in fray for the AMC mayoral post, eight are in fray for the JMC chairman post, and four are contesting for the Chakulia Nagar Panchayat (CNP) chairman post, respectively.
