IRB Jawan Killed, 3 Injured in Chatra SUV Accident Near Balbal Fair

Chatra: A jawan of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) was killed and three others injured after an SUV lost control and crashed into a roadside tree before ramming into a shop veranda in the Bariatu area under Giddhaur police station limits late on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Anil Kumar (26).Police said the vehicle was returning to Chatra from Balbal fair when the accident occurred. The impact was so severe that an iron seat kept outside a shop belonging to one Baijnath Yadav was badly damaged.

After it was found out that the jawan was killed in the accident, three persons, including the driver, who were in the vehicle and sustained injuries, fled from the scene.Giddhaur police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The damaged SUV was seized, and the body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem.Giddhaur OC Shiva Yadav confirmed the incident and identity of the deceased. Kumar was a resident of Pandeypura (Karni village) under Hunterganj police station area. “He was on security duty at the 10-day animal fair in Balbal. After completing his duty, he was returning to Chatra in the SUV,” said Yadav.According to eyewitnesses, as the SUV reached near Bariatu village, one of its tyres suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.Yadav said, “An inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and identify and trace the people who fled from the scene. Action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.”
