State cops on alert for C’garh election

Ranchi: Jharkhand police are vigilant on the borders along with Chhattisgarh in view of the state assembly elections in the neighbouring state on Friday.Police are carrying out vehicle checking drives and anti-Maoists operations to prevent inter-state movement of extremists, arms and ammunition, anti-social elements, liquor, cash, narcotics and other objectionable materials.Garwah, Gumla, Latehar, and Simedga share borders with Chhattisgarh. The boundaries of these districts have been sealed for 48 hours.As many as 10 check posts have been set up on the borders with Chhattisgarh in Garwah district. The police are conducting area domination exercise and the long range patrolling.Garwah SP Deepak Pandey said, “The anti-extremist operations are being conducted with the help of CRPF and quick reaction teams. The high degree of alertness would continue on the borders till the polling boxes reach the strong room.”Five check posts have been set up in Latehar and two in Simdega. The Latehar police said anti-extremist operations are being conducted in the strategic areas to prevent movement of the ultras. Two additional companies have been provided to Simdega.Inspector General (Operation) Amol Homkar said, “Several coordination meetings have been held between Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh police. Operations are also being conducted against the absconders according to mutually shared list of the two states. Jharkhand is providing all support in this regard.”

MHA bans nine Meitei extremist organisations that mostly operate in Manipur

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has banned nine Meitei extremist organizations that operate in Manipur, declaring them unlawful associations for a period of five years. The banned organizations include the Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA), the Revolutionary Peoples' Front (RPF), the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the Manipur Peoples' Army (MPA), the Peoples' Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and others. The Ministry stated that these organizations aim to establish an independent nation through armed struggle, which is considered detrimental to India's sovereignty and integrity.

Police carry out anti-sabotage checks at city immersion ghats

In preparation for an upcoming international cricket match and to ensure the safety of the city, Special Branch officers conducted anti-sabotage checks at major ghats along the Hooghly river in Kolkata. The checks were aimed at preventing the presence of banned firecrackers during the immersion processions. Despite some controversies, traffic moved normally during the first two days of immersion, with extra deployment on the routes. Complaints were received regarding the use of DJ music during the processions, which has been prohibited in Kolkata for several years.

Tuticorin airport conducts anti-hijack mock drill

Tuticorin airport in India conducted its annual hijack mock exercise (AHME) to ensure preparedness for any potential hijacking situations. The exercise involved an aerodrome committee meeting, which was presided over by the district collector. The airport director, town DSP, and officials from intelligence agencies and security forces attended the meeting. The drill is conducted annually to assess the airport's ability to handle unlawful interference to civil aviation, as mandated by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
