Jamshedpur: Steps taken to provide water to every household within the limits of the Mango civic body will come into effect in a week’s time, said urban local body officials. "We have provided mobile numbers of NAC officials. People can contact us for issues related to water supply for immediate response," said MNAC special officer (SO) Suresh Yadav.People living in the Mango civic body’s limits can call 7992318067 for complaints over irregular water supply to households. Further, the people can dial 8987586386 for borewell related problems, and, 8789559592 for water tanker.Officials concerned have been directed to streamline the water supply and fix defunct borewells and handpumps within a week, Yadav said. If problems exist even after that people should call the phone numbers provided, the SO noted.Yadav said a dedicated team of the officials has been formed under assistant engineer Santosh Kumar who has been made the nodal officer to oversee the day-to-day developments pertaining to water supply. The MNAC supplies 42 million litres of water daily to 24000 households but around 3 lakh people are still depended on more than 240 handpumps. With five tankers of 6000 litre capacity each, the notified area officials are confident of reaching out to the people living in the low-lying areas in the event of demand for the tanker service.Om Dubey, 54, of Ulidih, said water crisis in Mango is a perennial problem, particularly during the summer."Erratic power supply in summer and depletion of groundwater table are two of the main reasons causing water woes," Dubey said.D Nagesh, 70, of Subhash Colony, said population increase and haphazard construction of residential buildings and houses have aggravated the issue.
