Hemant buying time from ED by filing defective petition: BJP MP

Ranchi: BJP’s Rajya Sabha member and national present of the party’s ST Morcha, Sameer Oraon, on Friday accused chief minister Hemant Soren of deliberately filing a defective petition in the Jharkhand high court while challenging the ED’s summons to him.
“The defective affidavit was deliberately filed to buy more time. You are running away from the ED to defer the agency’s impending questioning. If you have not done anything wrong and are really the messiah of the tribal people of Jharkhand as you claim to be, you must appear for questioning at once,” Oraon told media persons.
Oraon’s media briefing came on the day Soren’s petition challenging the summons was taken up in the high court, which fixed October 11 as the next date of hearing.
The BJP leader alleged that though Soren had claimed in the affidavit in the court that he had 108 properties listed in his name, the CM and his family members owned countless Benami properties in the tribal-dominated Santhal Pargana and South Chotanagpur divisions by duping innocent and poor tribal families, who enjoy protection under the near century-old CNT and SPT Acts.
“The CM, his acquaintances and his family members helm a private cadre, which can also be called middlemen, for acquiring land and properties from the tribal people by forging and faking names. Senior officials of the state government, who are loyal to them just like Andh Bhakts, are helping them acquire these land parcels,” he claimed.
Oraon also claimed that though Soren said he was being summoned by the ED for his tribal ethnicity, he was not the messiah for the tribal people as he claimed to be. “Had the CM been a messiah, he would have been proactive in implementing the PESE Act and the Community Forest Rights Act in the state. Had he been a well-wisher of the tribal people, tribal men, women and children would not have been murdered in the state and the guilty would not have roamed free. He is using his tribal ethnicity just to mislead the people ,” Oraon said. The JMM leadership did not respond to Oraon’s allegations when contacted.
