Health centre lacks doctors
GARHWA: The community health centre at the Ranka sub-division headquarters in the district has been running with only one auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM). This is posing a huge problem for the rural patients and women of the sub-division as they never find doctors present here.
Those patients, who need medical assistance at night, have a harrowing time when they find no doctor on duty.

Only one ANM Chandrakanti Devi, who is punctual at work, somehow manages to handle the patients coming to the centre at night.
On Sunday night, seven women from rural areas approached the community health centre one after another for delivery but there was no doctor on duty. The ANM who was on duty helped five women during delivery. But two women Kavita Devi from Salaiya village and Meena Devi from Ranka Khurd village came with critical cases for which a doctor's advise was required.
In another incident, a woman Sheela Devi from Jhagraha village fell unconscious after giving birth to twins. The ANM though handled the case carefully and saved the woman's life, it could have taken a turn for the worse.
Local AJSU leader Seraj Ahmad Ansari said the situation was "very serious". "At times, I land in great trouble when a patient is brought to the health centre and I am unable to immediately provide treatment to him or her. I am dreading the day when the patients' relatives will come here and create a furor," said the ANM.
When contacted, civil surgeon in charge R N S Diwaker said, "Two doctors, Mantu Kumar and Ashok Kumar, have been posted at Ranka community health centre." Show cause notices are being issued to them for not being present at the health centre. Action will be taken against them, added the CS in charge.
