Hazaribag: Seven drug peddlers have been arrested from near Nagwa aerodrome under the Korra police station limits on Friday. A total of 166.5 gm of brown sugar, Rs 3.51 lakh in cash, two motorcycles and six phones were seized from their possession, police said on Saturday.
The arrested accused were identified as kingpin Santosh Kumar Saw (38), a resident of Piticha village in Chatra district, besides Yogesh Prasad (33) of Pitij, and Dharmendra Kumar Singh (27) of Dulha, Rajpur, in Chatra district, Sawan Kumar (19) of Premnagar Sindoor in Korra, Santosh Kumar (33) of Jamuwari under Ichak block, Prashant Kumar (28) of Khirgaon under Bara Bazaar outpost, and Anil Kumar (34) of Nagwa from Hazaribag, police added.
Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan said, “We received a tip-off on Friday about the planned sale of a large consignment of brown sugar near Nagwa airstrip. A team led by Sadar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Amit Anand raided a dilapidated house located near the airstrip and confiscated the drugs. The suspects present at the spot were chased and apprehended.”
A case was registered with the Korra police against the seven accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the NDPS Act. All the accused have been sent to judicial custody. The accused confessed during interrogation that they used to source brown sugar from Chatra district and sell it in different parts of Hazaribag, police added.
“In January, a total of 20.5 kg of opium were seized and three accused arrested under the Lohsighna police station limits, 212.7 gm of brown sugar were confiscated and 14 accused arrested from Ichak and Korra areas, 48.01 kg of marijuana were confiscated under the Daru Police Station,” SP Anjan stated.
