Hazaribag Birhor Community Gets Clean Water Access with New Purifier

Hazaribag: Around 150 people from the Birhor community living in Jamunia Tari Birhor Tola in Chouparan block finally got access to clean drinking water on Wednesday after the district administration installed a water purifier in the village. Officials said the purifier was purchased and installed using corporate social responsibility funds. Locals had highlighted the lack of clean drinking water to deputy commissioner (DC) Shashi Prakash Singh during his recent visit to the village.

Birhor is a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG). Jaggu Yadav, a govt school teacher who lives in the area, welcomed the move. “Around PVTG people live in this hamlet and depend on the forest for their livelihood. They use water from a well which can pose health concern if gets contaminated. So, the installation of a water purifier is a positive step towards keeping them healthy,” Yadav said.

In another initiative, DC also distributed hearing aids to 160 students of St Michael School for the Hearing Impaired at Dipugarha.

DC also interacted with the children and inspected facilities at the institution and approved a proposal to set up a smart class at the school.
