RANCHI: The
Raj Bhavan
has returned the
Prevention of Violence and Mob Lynching Bill
of 2021 to the state government, asking it to revisit the definition of “mob” as it is “not in consonance or in line with the well-defined legal lexicon/glossary”.
Governor Ramesh Bais
is also understood to have objected to the mismatch of the Hindi and the English versions of the Bill, which was sent to the Raj Bhavan after its passage by the state assembly in December last year.
While Raj Bhavan officials refused to speak on the record, the governor’s principal secretary,
Nitin Madan Kulkarni
, told TOI that he wasn’t aware of the issue.
However, other Raj Bhavan sources said the
Bill
was returned on Wednesday and released to the media on Thursday.
