Garhwa health dept on alert for GBS
Garhwa: With two suspected cases of guillain barre syndrome (GBS), both with travel history to Maharashtra, being treated in Ranchi, the Garhwa health department has sounded an alert.
General physician at Garhwa sadar hospital, Dr T Piyush, said, "GBS is a non-infectious condition where the body's immune system weakens, leading to symptoms like arm and facial muscle paralysis, severe back and leg pain, and difficulties in speaking and swallowing."
Health experts recommend preventive measures including maintaining hygiene, consuming boiled water and fresh food, and washing fruits and vegetables well.
Civil surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar said, "GBS is not communicable but affects the autonomic nervous system. While there's no need for panic, precautions are essential. Though GBS poses no immediate danger, the health department remains alert."
