Ganga cruise ship leaves Sahibganj

Dumka: The MV Ganga Vilas luxury cruise left the Sahibganj-based Samda river bank of the Ganga for its next destination on Saturday afternoon. The ship was on a maiden voyage for its world’s longest cruise from Varanasi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged it off on January 13. It is headed for Dibrugarh in Assam via Bangladesh. Altogether 32 foreigners, including 27 Germans and five Swiss, are on board the cruise ship when it arrived at Sahibganj on Friday evening, two days ahead of its scheduled stop there. It was anchored at the Samda bank for nearly 20 hours.Sahibganj DC Ramniwas Yadav said, “After the overnight stay onboard the cruise, the foreign guests were taken to the newly-constructed multi-model terminal and the adjacent Samda village where they interacted with the residents.” Rajmahal BJP MLA Anant Ojha gifted handloom items like silk clothes and flower bouquets to the visitors.Later, the foreign tourists witnessed tribal folk dances organised by the district administration at the river bank before proceeding towards Dibrugarh in Assam which is the last destination of the cruise ship after sailing for nearly 51 days.“India is certainly a diverse country where one can witness a sharp distinction of culture and lifestyle even at close distances,” remarked a Swiss national who arrived after crossing UP and Bihar.
