Ranchi: A day after former Maoist politburo member
Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da died in a city hospital, an unnatural death (UD) case was registered by Khelgaon police station on a petition by the jail administration, police said on Saturday.
Bose, 81, was suffering from various age-related ailments and passed away at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi on Friday.
Inspector general (prisons) Sudharsan Mandal said, “A medical board carried out the post-mortem examination of while the inquest was done by a magistrate. The proceedings were videographed. The process was conducted according to National Human Rights Commission guidelines.”
Bose’s body will be handed over to his relatives after verification of their identities, sources said, adding that a few persons have arrived from Kolkata claiming to be his family members.
Bose was arrested along with his wife, Sheela Hansda, in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Nov 12, 2021. Both of them were in judicial custody at Birsa Munda Central Jail here since then.
