Bokaro: A police team, headed by Bermo DSP Rajkumar Mehta on Thursday, arrested five persons of an inter-state cyber crime gang from Bermo's Phusro town. The accused have been forwarded to judicial custody.

Police seized more than 36 pass books, 24 cheque books, ATM cards and photographs from their possession. The accused have been identified by police as Prakash Kumar Nishad, Horil Kumar Ghosh, Vikas Kumar Pathak, Rajesh Kumar Bauri and Rahul Ghanshi, said DSP Raj Kumar Mehta.

"The gang had opened about 51 bank accounts by producing fake identity cards and sold them to cyber criminals operating in other states and received up to Rs 10,000 per account," said Mehta. Further investigations revealed illegal transactions worth Rs 50 lakh were conducted in the past few months.

"Fake callers posing as bankers would call people and ask for their account details," said Bokaro SP Y S Ramesh.
