Five arrested for murder of councillor’s husband

Ranchi: Police have nabbed five persons in connection with the shooting of Feroz Aslam alias Rinku, the husband of Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s ward-17 councillor Shabana Khan, in Hindpidhi on Saturday.
The arrested persons are Murshid Ayub, Haider Ali, Md Irshad, Rehan Khan, and Md Firdaush. Three pistols with cartridges each, a Hyundai car, a bike, and eight mobile phones have been seized from them, police said.
Rinku was returning home from Murshid’s house on a motorcycle when the criminals shot at him several times from behind.He was taken to Rims where he was declared brought dead.
Ranchi SSP Surindra Jha said, “A special investigation team led by SP (city) Anshuman Kumar was formed. It was a challenge to track the assailants as the CCTV footage related to the crime was unclear.”
Rinku had a dispute with Murshid over the payment of a huge sum of money. Under pressure from Rinku for payment of the amount, Murshid hired criminals and mobilised the weapons from his close associates to eliminate him. He called Rinku to his place with an assurance to pay the money and got him killed.
Murshid was arrested based on police surveillance and tracking as he was trying to shift his place of hiding. All the criminals involved in the crime barring one have been arrested, the SSP added.
