Elderly woman tied to electric pole in Giridih after married son comes home with another woman
Bokaro: A 65-year-old Sahiya (community health worker) was tied to an electric pole for two hours at a village in Giridih district on Monday over domestic dispute. The incident took place in Chandauri village under Tisri police station limits. Malti Devi’s son Pintu Ravidas, 41, was detained along with a woman for questioning, the police said.
Locals said Pintu, married since 2011 and the father of four children, arrived with a woman at the family’s home on Monday. Pintu’s wife Munni Devi opposed the move, which led to further tension. Munni claimed Pintu tortured her when she raised objections.
Pintu, who works at a private firm, lives with his family in Chandauri village.
“We got married in 2011 and have four children — our eldest daughter is 10 years old and the youngest is two and half years old. When he brought another woman home, I protested. He then started torturing me, after which I informed my parents,” Munni said.
Munni’s family members reached Chandauri village soon after. When they could not trace Pintu, Munni’s kin allegedly turned towards Malti, a sahiya, and tied her to a pole and demanded that her son appear at the earliest. “I was tied up for two hours and assaulted,” Malti said. Munni’s relatives however denied the charges.
A police team led by Shambhu Nand Ishwar, the officer-in-charge of Tisri police station, arrived at the village and rescued Malti. “When we arrived, a large crowd had gathered, turning the situation into a spectacle. We rescued her. Further probe is on. Pintu and the woman accompanying him have been detained for questioning.”
