Elderly Woman Dies in Jamshedpur House Fire: Short Circuit Suspected
Jamshedpur: An 85-year-old woman was charred to death in her sleep at her home in Steel City in the early hours of Thursday. The incident took place in Indiranagar under Sitaramdera police station limits of the city. The deceased was identified as Shobha Mukherjee. She was asleep when the fire broke out at her home. She was burnt alive after her family members could not move her to safety.“The actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, a preliminary investigation suggested that the fire broke out because of a short circuit,” Niranjan Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Sitaramdera police station, said. The blaze was doused by several fire engines. Mukherjee’s kin however claimed that she could have been saved if the fire tenders arrived on time.
