RANCHI: A team of the enforcement directorate (ED) team is likely to visit the Birsa Munda Central Jail here on Monday to collect the CCTV footage of the prisoners related to the MNREGA scam, illegal mining and money laundering.

An ED source said after the court’s order directing the jail administration to provide the footage, the ED has also called up the jail authority concerned on the matter. Checking of the CCTV footage became necessary after the jail administration had allegedly provided benefits to the prisoners in violation of the law.

According to the sources, one of the accused, Pankaj Mishra, who is chief minister Hemant Soren’s representative in Barhait constituency, had reportedly made and received nearly 300 calls on mobile phones during his stay under judicial custody at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims).

The violation of rules by the jail inmates is allegedly much higher than that of Mishra and it is the likely reason for resistance on the part of the jail administration to provide the footage, the ED source said.

The ED has submitted its second report to the state government against suspended IAS officer Pooja Singhal in connection with the MNREGA scam and money laundering so that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act could be registered against her. The first report was sent to the top state officials in November. The second report has been sent to the same officers this month.
